This year's theme is "ROOT WORK: Embracing and Honoring Unconventional Pathways to Performance," celebrating the rich roots and tapestry of Black storytelling and performance, with dynamic speakers, conversations, and workshops. 

The Keynote Speaker will be Baltimore Center Stage's New Artistic Director, Tony Award nominated, and Obie Award-winner director Stevie Walker-Webb.

 

Emphasizing the importance of artist-leaders, this symposium fosters dialogue and action among professionals, scholars and students who convene to discuss, devise and actualize efforts to influence and expand inclusive practices, civility and social well-being in the performing arts and beyond.

 

The symposium coincides with the second night of UMoves: Undergraduate Dance Concert on Saturday, May 4, at 7 pm. You are encouraged to join us for this celebratory event.

What's changing?

  • More clarity on abusive activity. We're providing more examples and details about abuse and interference with our services that isn't allowed.
  • More details on limitations of liability. For users outside the US, we're adding clarifications to our limitations of liability and indemnity sections to avoid any misunderstandings in light of local laws or customs.
  • More clarity on disputes. We're clarifying that if you violate our terms, our remedies aren't limited to suspension or termination of your access to the services, but may include other remedies under applicable law. (Career Progress) Social Justice Organizer -- Washington, DC

The Social Justice Organizer is based in the Washington, DC area and will have primary responsibility organizing activists nationwide and anchoring direct actions and legislative visits in DC. 

As the Workers Circle's point-person in our nation's capital, the organizer will track priority federal legislation, opportunities for endorsement and advocacy. They will signal key moments in the life-cycle of priority legislation when grassroots action can be most impactful and skillfully craft grassroots actions to maximize the power of our multi-generational activist base, with particular emphasis on activists over 60 years of age. 

The Social Justice Organizer will be the primary point person for Workers Circle's grassroots coalition efforts with allied organizations to advance our work on democracy and voting rights in order to advance worker rights, economic justice, immigrant rights and racial justice. They will create and manage sign-on letters, contribute to planning and carrying out coalition actions and programs. Importantly, the social justice organizer will anchor for Workers Circle's participation in social justice actions in the DC-area, from protests outside the Supreme Court, to hearings on the Hill, to actions like the annual March on Washington. 

They will also open new doors and strengthen existing relationships for the Workers Circle with Congress, the White House, and relevant federal agencies that demonstrate our grassroots power, legislative priorities, and Jewish values. While the CEO and Director of Social Justice take the lead in these relationships with federal leaders, the social justice organizer cultivates those relationships with staff, identifies important new people we should meet, closely tracks contacts, assesses opportunities and advising where our values and grassroots power can be marshaled to build a truly multiracial democracy and achieve the worker, immigrant and economic rights we need.

The social justice organizer will additionally assist with Workers Circle's phonebanking, textbanking, and postcarding efforts including promotion, recruitment, and execution. Additionally, the Social Justice Organizer will assist in catalyzing Democracy Circles including through public presentations, and assisting circle support and resource development. 

Further, they will work with the Marketing and Communications Manager to craft posts and engage on social media with a focus on timely legislation and the Workers Circle's history of activism. 

The Social Justice Organizer will advance the progressive values and vision of the Workers Circle. They must be able to assist in translating our approach to Jewish social justice using excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as tailored, outreach approaches to build ongoing relationships both with the staff of key government offices and our activist base. 

This position reports to the Social Justice Director. Additional duties may be required at the employer's discretion. The position requires attendance at all Workers Circle events and actions which may take place at any time of the day.  This is an exempt, full-time, union position, fully remote and based in the Washington, DC area. Compensation $65,000-75,000 depending on experience, plus an excellent benefits package.

·       Vacation: Each employee who shall have been employed for six (6) months but less than one (1) year by July 1st shall receive one (1) weeks' vacation with pay. Each employee who has been employed between one year and two years shall receive two (2) weeks' vacation with pay. Each employee who shall have been employed for three (3) years but less than 10 years, shall receive three (3) weeks' vacation with pay per year. Each employee who shall have been employed for ten (10) years or more shall receive four (4) weeks' vacation with pay per year. Employees may carry over unused vacation days to the following year to be used by no later than August 30

·       Union employes receive 5 personal days per year

·       Sick Days: 12 sick days per year. Employees may carry over 5 unused sick days and bank up to no more than 20 unused sick days in any given year

·       An annual 4% increase through September 1, 2025, pursuant to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for Union employees

·       Health Care Flexible Spending Account

·       Qualified Mass Transit Plan

·       Summer Hours (will vary at employer's discretion)

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of Social Justice will

·       Organize grassroots activist as part of the Workers Circle's social justice team

·       Serve as the anchor for Washington, DC-area direct actions and legislative visits

·       Track priority legislation and identify key moments for strategic action

·       Develop relationships with key federal staff to advance Workers Circle's priorities

·       Contribute to developing grassroots strategy and action within coalitions

·       Assist in catalyzing and resourcing Democracy Circles

·       Assist in phonebanking, textbanking, and postcarding

·       Assist with social media content development

 

The ideal candidate will possess:

·      5-7 years of experience in start-up or grassroots organizing

·      Strategic thinker and tactician

·      Familiarity with the federal legislative process and nonpartisan grassroots lobbying

·      Experience working with Congressional offices, the White House or Government Agencies

·      Fluent navigator of Jewish cultures and identities

·      Self-starter and accomplished project manager

·      Excellent public speaking and writing skills

·      Excellent listening skills, sound judgment, and strong problem-solving skills

·      At ease in a fast-past environment without losing attention to detail

·      Comfortable working in a deployed setting and relating to colleagues remotely

·      Experience working with senior activism is a plus.

Scorpio Entertainment is currently seeking singers for an upcoming Capital Pride event.

REWIND is an ultimate retro party taking place on Saturday, June 8, 2024, 8pm-1:00am at The Square in Downtown, Washington, DC.

We are seeking TWO energetic and talented singers to perform a "Pride anthem" during the event, fitting the retro theme that celebrates the strides that the LGBTQ+ have made since the Stonewall riots.



We are ideally seeking a pop vocalist to sing live, accompanied by their own backing track, a song that is no more than 3:30:00 minutes, showcasing an uptempo or ballad pop, musical theatre, R&B, or rock selection.
