Chispa, a program of LCV, works to ensure that Latinx communities and leaders have a strong voice in the movement for climate justice and within the environmental movement. In the last two years, Chispa has grown to include grassroots organizing programs focused on Latinx communities in Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, Florida, Maryland, and soon Texas.

 

LCV is seeking a Chispa Digital Campaigns Manager to ensure that Chispa’s growing Latinx membership is an active voice in the fight against climate change and for climate justice. The Digital Campaigns Manager will work within the Communications t department, in coordination with the Community and Civic Engagement department, to grow a grassroots base of Latinx activists who will engage in climate justice issues and environmental policies. This is an excellent opportunity for a bilingual writer and online organizer to be a part of an innovative team that runs creative digital campaigns that center on racial justice and equity and are grounded in the equitable climate solutions and building long term power for communities of color.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Write compelling advocacy copy, online petitions, newsletters, and other engagement email copy for the Chispa audience that centers racial justice and equity.
  • Work with the Communications team to build the Chispa membership with a focus on people of color, Latinx, and young people. Emphasize growing the Chispa list in our six states including coordinating on content creation, implementation, and set-up tools such as Phone2Action, EveryAction, etc.
  • Identify creative online and mobile campaign opportunities to engage and mobilize LCV’s growing Chispa online activist base, both nationwide and in states where we have state Chispa programs.
  • Create shareable content with Chispa states, manage and create content for Chispa national’s social media accounts.
  • Project manage the launch of a new Chispa website in coordination with the Chispa Communications Director.
  • Support Chispa National Communications and Creative Strategies Director in implementing a comprehensive communications plan that includes storytelling and cultural strategies.
  • Provide resources for the states to continue building digital strategies that build a strong online base of supporters.
  • Work with the state Chispa programs and partner groups to connect LCV’s online efforts with the community organizing programs that engage Chispa’s membership around environmental and climate justice issues.
  • Assist with other online campaigns and writing projects as needed by the Chispa teams.

 

Qualifications:

  • Work Experience: Required - Minimum of 3-5 years experience in community organizing and/or digital organizing, communications, or advocacy. Experience writing, creating, and/or curating compelling content. Experience in social media management, including using social media for advocacy purposes. Experience in English and Spanish-language online communications targeting Latinx communities.
    • Preferred - Knowledge of online advocacy tools is a plus.
  • Skills: Required - Demonstrated ability to produce online campaign materials; must demonstrate creativity in pursuing digital or organizing opportunities; commitment to measuring and tracking progress and outcomes; reliable, consistent, detail-oriented, and self-motivated; works well in a fast-paced environment and able to multitask without sacrificing the quality of work.
    • Preferred - Strong bilingual (English-Spanish) writing and editing skills; familiarity with CRM, CMS, and online advocacy tools (Convio and HTML); understanding of environmental issues and their potential to engage Latino communities and communities of color.
  • Cultural Competence: Demonstrated awareness of one’s own cultural identity, views about differences, and the ability to learn and build on varying cultural and community norms. A complex understanding of racial justice and the urgency of confronting institutional racism and inequity. Commitment to equity and inclusion as organizational practice and culture. Proven track record of successfully working across lines of race, immigration status, ethnicity, language, class, gender, and other identities and experiences.
  • Working Conditions: This job operates in a professional office environment, and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and audiovisual systems. This position is largely sedentary, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods. Ability to occasionally work evening and weekend hours as needed; ability and willingness to travel up to 30% of the time (currently paused due to COVID-19). The location of this position is flexible. Please note that all LCV staff are currently working remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
