Junior Economic and Trade Officer

 

The Embassy of Hungary in Washington, D.C., seeks a Junior Officer to support the work of its Economic and Trade Section (preferably Hungarian-English bilingual). The individual will be working directly with the Economic and Trade diplomats, providing assistance in the daily tasks of the Economic and Trade Office. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with a probationary period of 90 days, followed by at-will employment. We offer an appropriate entry-level salary and extra compensation for overtime work (hourly). The Embassy also offers high-quality healthcare for its local employees.

 

Job Responsibilities:

·       Conduct research on U.S. economic developments, policy positions, and companies to keep the Economic & Trade Section informed and prepared;

·       Craft briefing materials for the Economic and Trade diplomats in advance of meetings with U.S. counterparts in Washington, D.C., and around the country;

·       Support meetings with external stakeholders (Chambers of Commerce, economic development officials, U.S. and Hungarian companies) regarding economic and trade issues;

·       Assist in the organization of trade and investment promotion events hosted by the Embassy;

·       Prepare meeting memos and reports;

·       Craft social media posts about key developments in U.S.-Hungarian commercial relations and the activities of the Economic & Trade Section;

·       Assist Hungarian companies wishing to export to/set foot in the United States by providing information on U.S. regulations, making connections, and finding potential partners for cooperation;

·       Assist U.S. companies wishing to import from/invest in Hungary;

·       Conduct administrative tasks such as managing incoming and outgoing correspondence, maintaining contact information, and supporting visiting delegations from Hungary;

·       Other tasks as needed: drafting/proofreading correspondence and talking points, driving delegations, supporting other sections of the Embassy.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. work permit, clean record;
  • University degree in Economics, International Relations, Political Science or other relevant field;
  • Excellent writing skills in English (Hungarian is an advantage), ability to proofread and edit documents;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with others in an international environment;

·       Accuracy, proactivity, creative problem solving skills;

·       The ability to work with tight deadlines and manage time effectively;

  • Ability to work in a high stress, fast-paced environment and handle multiple assignments simultaneously;
  • Familiarity with Hungarian politics, economics and culture, as well as Hungarian-American bilateral relations is an advantage;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
