Calling all Friends of HHRF!
Árpádhon (just South of Albany, in Livingston Parish, Louisiana and part of the hardest hit Baton Rouge metro area) is the oldest continuously inhabited Hungarian community in North America. It suffered extensive flooding in August, which devastated the community. Underreported in the domestic and international media, 30 inches of water fell in 3 days, inundating private homes and the Hungarian Club with 4 feet of sewer water and petroleum. About 2,600 families are still living in shelters; some homes are beyond repair and are not getting FEMA assistance, because the affected areas are not in a flood zone.
HHRF is calling on you to help restore the Hungarian Club. The Hungarian Settlement Cultural Association gets no public assistance, so they need the Hungarian-American community's help to get back on their feet.
HHRF is in direct communication with the Club's leadership. Provisions for the October Harvest Dance – their sole annual fundraiser – were lost, leaving them destitute and with no means to raise the Club's $7,000 annual budget. The commercial refrigerator ($4,000), stove ($3,000), freezer ($2,000) and PA system ($1,000) need to be replaced, bringing their total immediate need to $17,000. This amount does not include repainting the rooms and house, repairing twenty 100-year-old chairs, and completing other important restoration work.
Financial assistance, even if modest, can have a great moral impact on the community. No matter how large or small, your tax-deductible contribution will go to an earmarked Árpádhon Fund. Please give online, or mail your check to:

A Louisiana államban található Árpádhon az Egyesült Államok legrégebbi magyarok alapította települése. Az Albany-tól délre, Livingston megyében fekvő Árpádhon lakóit súlyosan érintette a Baton Rouge térségét augusztusban végigpusztító árvíz. Az amerikai és nemzetközi média által mostohán kezelt településre három nap alatt 30 inch (háromnegyed méter) csapadék esett, több mint 4 láb (120 centiméter) magasan állt a házakban és a Magyar Klubban a szennyvíz. 2600 család él még mindig menhelyen; sok ház vált lakhatatlanná és az érintett családok sajnos nem részesülnek FEMA támogatásban, mert a környék nem esik a hivatalos ártérbe.
A HHRF adománygyűjtést indított a Magyar Klub helyrehozására. Az Árpádhon Hungarian Settlement Cultural Association (Árpádhon Magyar Település Kulturális Egyesület – AHSCA) nem részesül állami támogatásban, így csak Amerika és a világ magyarságának segítségével tud ismét lábra állni.
A HHRF kapcsolatban áll a Klub vezetőségével. A tőlük kapott információk szerint az október elsejére tervezett Aratóünnepre előkészített, a Magyar Klub székházában raktározott élelmiszer és felszerelés az árvíz áldozatául estek, így az egyesület nem tudja megtartani azt az eseményt, amelytől a Magyar Klub éves költségvetésének ($7,000) összegyűjtését remélte. Az ipari méretű hűtőszekrény ($4,000), kályha ($3,000), fagyasztó ($2,000) és a hangosító berendezés ($1,000) ugyancsak tönkrement és újat kell vásárolni, így az újrainduláshoz szükséges összeg eléri a $17,000-et. A termek és a ház kifestésére, a több mint 100 éves bútorok restaurálására pedig további összegre lesz szükség.
