Chris Peot will be coming in to tell us about a cutting-edge bio-digestion project that will soon revolutionize the way DC's wastewater is treated, creating significant amounts of clean energy and lowering the city's carbon footprint.
  • DC Water is dedicated to protecting human and environmental health and recovering untapped resources. DC Water's service area is approximately 725 square miles.
  • DC Water provides retail water and wastewater (sewer) service to the District of Columbia.
  • DC Water provides wholesale wastewater treatment service of 370 million gallons per day to Montgomery and Prince George's counties in Maryland and Fairfax and Loudoun counties in Virginia.
  • People Served:  DC Water provides more than 640,000 residents, 17.8 million annual visitors, and 700,000 people who are employed in the District of Columbia with water and sewer/wastewater treatment.

Chris Peot
 
Chris Peot has worked in the environmental field for 25 years, both as a consultant and as a public servant.  Chris has BS and MS degree Civil/Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin and Cal State Long Beach.  Chris has been at DC Water for 15 years, currently serving as the Director of Resource Recovery.  Prior, Chris worked as a consultant in Seattle and as a process enginee rat a large wastewater treatment facility in Los Angeles.  Chris is proud of his organizations commitment to innovation and carbon footprint reduction.

At Glen's Garden Market, neighbors select from the Chesapeake Bay Watershed's finest produce, meats, poultry, dairy products and specialty foods in a space designed to celebrate seasonality and offer unprecedented access to environmentally sustainable, locally made foods. The store showcases foods grown or created by farmers and artisans in DC, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New York.
 
The store itself was constructed using sustainable building materials as well as highly efficient lighting, refrigeration and cooking equipment. Additionally, doors have been installed on the service cases to avoid wasting refrigerant. The bar itself is made of recycled paper. Consistent with the store's environmental focus, minimizing waste is a priority at Glen's Garden Market.  No paper or plastic is available at check out and used only as absolutely required in other areas of the store.  The store offers only reusable bags made from recycled content.
