Since this is the 1st Thursday after the DC Democratic Primary we will personally congratulate two winners as we will be joined by Brianne Nadeau after her big victory over long-time Ward 1 City Council Member Jim Graham and DC Latino Caucus President Franklin Garcia after his unopposed victory as nominee for DC Shadow Representative.
We also will enjoy a cameo from N4P's retiring Senior Adviser, Economic Analyst and Emcee Anjon Roy who is moving to New York City to put his expertise to work by fighting Wall Street corruption head on...or just some desk job for a media company near 30 Rock.
This month we will be at Lost Society's rooftop deck that is conveniently heated to counter any issues with our extended winter season.
The event is FREE WITH RSVP but we will be accepting optional 50/50 contributions from registered attendees of $1 or more to benefit Enroll America’s #GetCovered program and N4P.

SUMMARY:
The latest word is that there will be an “honor system” extension until mid-April for folks who say they tried and couldn’t sign up by March 31st, but nonetheless, it’s time to get covered by the 2014 deadline or pay a 1% penalty on your income and a minimum of $95!
With the help of tax credits for individuals making up to about $50,000/year, a majority of the over 5 million Americans who signed up for private plans so far have a monthly premium cheaper than your phone bill so if you don’t have health insurance PLEASE SIGN UP so you don’t go broke if you get hurt or sick! And if you’re income is less than 133% of the U.S. poverty level (about $15,000 for a single person) you can qualify for Medicaid in DC, Maryland and any state that has not rejected the funds for it. (sorry, Virginia)
And remember that with the new Patient Protections under the law:

You are guaranteed that at least 80% of your premiums are being spent on health care
You can’t be denied health insurance because of pre-existing conditions
-
You can’t be dropped by your insurance company because you got sick
You can’t be stuck with lifetime limits on your coverage.

You don’t have to pay more because you are a woman.
And preventative care is free...so you don’t have to think twice about maintaining your health because you’re being nickle and dimed with more charges!
