(Career Progress) JOB: CREW Communications Director

Communications Director

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) seeks a
Communications Director to lead our creative and fast-paced
communications office. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability
to garner extensive press coverage and build relationships with
journalists. He or she will have extensive writing and editing
experience and an eye for grammar and detail. The candidate will also
have a track record of successfully coordinating and executing
innovative communications and outreach strategies across all media
platforms. The position is a terrific opportunity to engage with a
broad range of media outlets to fight corruption in Washington and
highlight the need for reform.


About CREW

CREW is a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to
promoting ethics and accountability in government and public life.
Founded in 2003, CREW has played a key role in motivating the public
and policymakers to change the culture of corruption in Washington.
Through litigation, exhaustive research, and strategic communications,
CREW impacts the way government officials conduct business, ensuring
they are continually working to better the public good.

The Communications Director's responsibilities include:

· Lead development and implementation of communications and
outreach strategies for all CREW projects, campaigns, and legal
actions

· Lead production of weekly email updates, fundraising emails,
blog posts, and op-eds

· Create and maintain targeted lists for national, local, and
trade-level press outreach

· Oversee contact database and logistics for press release
distribution and media events

· Supervise CREW's New Media Director and Digital Content and
Media Coordinator

· Facilitate CREW's response to media inquiries

· Advise Executive Director on messaging strategy

· Leverage/build relationships with journalists to create new
media opportunities

· Successfully pitch all CREW actions and story ideas

· Draft and edit compelling news releases for traditional and
new media platforms

· Monitor news relevant to CREW's mission and develop
initiatives for new CREW actions

· Create concepts and framework for CREW projects with new
media and IT staff

· Oversee daily updates and other critical content on all CREW websites



Qualifications:

· Minimum five years of communications experience in
nonprofit, executive branch, Capitol Hill, or comparable setting with
demonstrated interest in national politics

· Experience with development, execution, and coordination of
time-sensitive media strategies

· Demonstrated commitment to producing superior written work products

· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment and
juggle multiple priorities

· Proven track record of developing and maintaining press contacts

· Strong project management skills

· Experience working collaboratively with coalition groups and
diverse teams



The following are desirable but not required:

· Experience in online content management and mailing systems
and knowledge of the online media environment and best practices

· Knowledge of online fundraising tactics and experience
integrating fundraising strategies into communications work

· Experience managing and supervising staff

· Familiarity with government reform issues
