Re: [Unicum] ATTENTION HUNGARIANS and HUNGAROPHILES LIVING ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES !!!

Thanks, Christie! A small clarification. This not a bill but rather a "dear colleague letter" which is being prepared for delivery to Secretary of State John Kerry. We need co-signers to increase its impact.

The deadline has been extended again to Thursday. For details, please visit:

Greetings, fellow Hungarians AND Hungarophiles!

Here is a cause for every believer in human rights to support,

I got a reminder call over the weekend from Frank Koszorus who is spearheading the drive on Capitol Hill to restore human rights to Hungarians living under Romanian oppression. It's easy to do. 1-888-978-3094 is the toll-free number of the Congress.  This toll-free number is convenient because you can call free from any landline and not have to use your expensive cellular telephone time.  If you have a computer, you can go to the official online Congressional directory at http://clerk.house.gov/member_info/mcapdir.aspx to find out the direct dial phone number of your member so you can bypass the often congested Congressional switchboard.

Please call your Congressman TODAY , Monday, June 10th.  Don't procrastinate.  Ask that he/she support the bipartisan HARRIS-KAPTUR BILL (a little farther down in my e-mail I've given you a script) which can restore human rights to our Hungarians living in Romania under oppression.

This is a cause for every believer in human rights to support, whether he or she is Hungarian or not, so those of you who are married to non-Hungarians or have non-Hungarian friends, forward this e-mail to them.  Hungary is often overlooked because it is a country without gold, diamonds or oil, and there is no economic payoff for fat cats and lobbyists to support Hungary.  But Hungary is rich in human resources and international accomplishments too numerous to list (just one example is the countless Nobel prize winners who have benefited millions the world over with their discoveries).

IF YOU KNOW THE NAME OF YOUR CONGRESSMAN/CONGRESSWOMAN, ask the operator to tell you the number before she connects you, that way if your Congressman's line is busy, you can call right back directly without wasting your time talking to the switchboard operator again.

IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE NAME OF THE U.S. REPRESENTATIVE FROM YOUR DISTRICT,  just ask the U.S. Capitol switchboard operator to connect you to any Congressman in your state. When the Congressional office staffer answers, tell him or her the city you live in; if you've reached the wrong office then he or she will give you the correct phone number.

HERE IS MY SCRIPT FOR YOU TO SAY. It's just 4 sentences and  it covers all the pertinent issues plus emphasizes that this is a BIPARTISAN BILL (because Marcy Kaptur of Ohio is a Democrat and Congressman Andy Harris from Maryland is a Republican).

"Hello. My name is ____________ and I live in [CITY, STATE].  Please ask [CONGRESSMAN ______ /CONGRESSWOMAN _______] to sign the bipartisan HARRIS-KAPTUR BILL.

What the HARRIS-KAPTUR BILL asks for is restoration of the minority, religious and economic rights in Romania which were taken away from the Hungarian minority over half a century ago during Communist rule.  That was over half a century ago and the Hungarian minority's human rights still have not been restored.   Please tell CONGRESSMAN /CONGRESSWOMAN_______ that  I called to ask that he/she sign the bipartisan HARRIS-KAPTUR bill."

Cordially:
