HANFORD — It's time for supervisors to decide whether they want "In God We Trust" emblazoned above board chambers at the Kings County Government Center.
There's a study session item on the agenda for Tuesday to discuss the option.
If they adopt the slogan, supervisors would be following the city councils of Hanford and Lemoore. Hanford voted 5-0 on July 17 to place the phrase about council chambers at the Civic Auditorium.
Lemoore has had the motto up since 2008.
Bakersfield-based organization In God We Trust-America, Inc. got the movement started when the Bakersfield City Council adopted the saying in 2002. The group is trying to spread it nationwide.
"The goal of this mission is to keep God's name in America, and acknowledge and affirm the role that faith in God plays in the public lives of the citizens in this country, and in the core values of our nation," reads a statement on the organization's website.
The estimated cost to the county would be $1,200, according to county documents.
Supervisors meet at 9 a.m. in board chambers at the Kings County Government Center.
