CFS Online Organizing Internship

 

Job Description: Online Organizing Intern

Campaign for a Fair Settlement (CFS) is accepting applications for  fall internships in online organizing.  We are looking for candidates excited about entering the world of political organizing around progressive issues.  The candidate will be helping develop and implement online campaigns on issues of related to the housing crisis, foreclosures and the recent national mortgage settlement. She/he will be assisting state and national partners in implementing online actions. She/he will work with all aspects of online campaigns, from drafting copy for email blasts to implementing entire online action sequences through our web properties and from creating and implementing causes and campaigns on Facebook and Twitter to working with websites.

 

Typical responsibilities include:

- Writing email blasts and other online campaign pieces

- Writing and posting blog diaries

- Brainstorming mini online campaigns to help grow email lists

- All aspects of online campaign implementation

- Maintaining organizational presence in social networks like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc.

 

Qualifications

  • 3-12 months of online advocacy  preferably for candidate or issue campaign
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to work closely with other members of a team, but also to manage your work independently
  • Willingness to learn and take constructive criticism
  • Familiarity with progressive public policy issues, especially economic and racial justice issues.
  • Background in Economics, Political Science beneficial but not necessary
  • Knowledge of HTML is advantageous but not necessary
  • Knowledge of Spanish is advantageous but no necessary
  • Creativity
  • Sense of humor
  • Commitment to social justice

 Job Description: Research Intern

CFS is applicant for fall internships in research.  We are looking for candidates excited about entering the world of political research around progressive issues.  The candidate will be helping develop research, white papers for internal and external use by the campaign. Successful candidate will work directly with campaign manager and press team on adapting research for press & public.  He/she will focus on issues related to the 2007-09 housing crisis, foreclosures and the recent national mortgage settlement. She/he will be assisting state and national partners in research as needed. At the end of internship, successful applicant will have helped produced a minimum of three nationally publicized white papers and a number of internal research memos. 

 

Typical responsibilities include:

- Analyzing, compiling and drafting relevant materials from news and reports for weekly topics or actions

- Managing daily research assignments

-Going and taking notes at relevant press and policy events around Washington DC

-Reading and summarizing larger documents including: legislation, non-fiction memoirs and regulatory reports

Qualifications

Duration & Location:

Internships are available immediately and last throughout a semester/quarter. They are located in Washington, DC. Summer: May 15th-August 15th, Fall: September 3rd-December 13th, Winter: January 15th-March 13th

 

Hours:

15-40 hours per week

 

Compensation:

This internship is unpaid though travel and food stipend are available. 

 

Background

The Campaign for a Fair Settlement (CFS) is a coalition of progressive organizations nationally and in states hit hardest by the foreclosure crisis working to hold banks accountable for their role in the foreclosure crisis, and protect homeowners and taxpayers. The campaign has worked in close coordination with organizations including New Bottom Line, Alliance for a Just Society, National People's Action, PICO, MoveOn, Color of Change, Credo Action, Working Families Party and dozens of local and community-based groups nationwide.

 

The Leadership Center for the Common Good supports locally-based nonprofit organizations dedicated to community organizing. This includes leadership and staff development, refining and implementing organizing models, developing issue campaigns, building communications capacity, and planning civic engagement activities. In all these areas Common Good provides a range of services, from generating materials to hosting trainings to providing fundraising support.
