(Career Progress) INTERNSHIP - Campaign for a local issue in Frederick County!

Company Description:  Fontaine & Company is a grassroots advocacy and consulting firm that works closely with PR firms, corporations and non-profits to seamlessly integrate public relations and marketing with "bottom-up" communications – an approach that can increase your ability to build broad and lasting public support. We use both contemporary and "old-fashioned" organizing tactics and programs designed to build local networks that cultivate and nurture supporters, leveraging the power of citizen engagement to link business objectives to the needs of a community.

 

Internship Description:  Fontaine & Company seeks bright, motivated, and civic-minded interns who want first-hand experience working on a grassroots political campaign advocating for Charter Home Rule government, a ballot issue that will be voted on by Frederick County residents in the November 2012 election.  Interns will work closely with the Charter YES! Ballot Committee staff on the following:

  • Voter education, community and stakeholder outreach, supporter identification, phone banking, and get-out-the-vote (GOTV) efforts
  • Growing charter support and a volunteer base by working with Ballot Committee Members, Education Coalition Members, local leaders and allied organizations
  • Identifying, organizing and facilitating a series of community outreach meetings to create a dialogue to educate various constituencies on Charter Home Rule
  • Managing social media presence and support the media team by identifying supporters to write letters to the editor and attend media events
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Skills:  Interns must be: a self-starter; critical thinker; creative and outgoing; able to work with a high degree of autonomy and ambiguity; a team player; efficient organizational and time management skills; comfortable working with the public sector and communicating to diverse groups; able to maintain confidentiality and ethical conduct; and technologically savvy.

Education Requirements:  Applicants must be a Junior or Senior enrolled at an accredited institution with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above majoring in marketing, public relations, communications, sociology, government, political science, law, or a combination thereof

Transportation:  It is the responsibility of the student to arrange and pay for transportation to and from internship site, which may include parking fees.

Hours/Pay:  This internship is approximately 10 to 20 hours per week and unpaid, but students are encouraged to obtain course credit.
