After many months of planning and working with diasporal organizations, the official Legacy Tour 2024 of the Angyalföldi Vadrózsa Folk Dance Ensemble will happen this fall. The tour in part is sponsored by the Hungarian Folklife Association. The stop is also co-sponsored by the Embassy of Hungary, DC.

There will also be a táncház at the Hungarian Embassy (shoemaker street): https://vadrozsatanchaz.eventbrite.com/
Please support both events!
————————
The ensemble is one of the most renowned folk dance ensembles in Hungary. Vadrózsa (or wild rose in Hungarian) was established 30 years ago in Angyalföld, (the 'Land of Angels') – the nickname for the XIIIth District of Budapest. Since its foundation, the group's mission has been to recognize, preserve, and disseminate authentic Hungarian folk dance and music through teaching and performance. The group is dedicated to highlighting the abundant folk traditions and cultural treasures of the Carpathian Basin on the global stage. The ensemble has an ethos based on community building and educating the next generation.
ABOUT THE SHOW
Vadrózsa will undertake a five-city tour of the East Coast of the United States. The highlight of the performance series is the commemoration organized jointly with the Embassy of Hungary, Washington, DC, which pays tribute to the memory of the revolution and freedom struggle of October 23, 1956. The revolution is one of the most significant events in Hungarian history, which began with a peaceful demonstration by University of Budapest students, and within a few days escalated into an armed conflict against the Soviet occupation. Although the uprising was crushed, its international impact played an important role in the process leading to the eventual fall of the Soviet Union.
