Dear DC Arts Partners and Georgetown Community Friends!
Please help us to spread the word that the Call for Musicians for our 2nd annual Fête De La Musique – World Music Day [FDLM WMD] has been extended to May 19th! This year's event is on Saturday, June 21, from 3 – 7 pm throughout the commercial district and 6 – 10 pm at the French Embassy's La Maison Francaise. It is part of a global music event started over 40 years ago and celebrated in over 1000 cities worldwide.
The Call for Musicians and application link can be found online at www.georgetowndcmusic.com. Three organizations are coming together to organize this event after a successful inaugural event on June 21, 2024: Georgetown Heritage, the Georgetown Business Improvement District [BID] and the Embassy of France-Villa Albertine. We are thrilled to host DMV area musicians of all ages, skills, and genres to celebrate the diversity of our area's Arts and Culture scene and fill the neighborhood with music for all to enjoy.
What is Fête De La Musique – World Music Day?
Every year, over 1,000 cities worldwide celebrate the summer solstice with citywide music events. It all began 43 years ago in France when the Ministry of Culture envisioned a day where free, live music would fill the streets—on corners and in parks, on rooftops and in gardens, in storefronts and even atop mountaintops. Unlike traditional music festivals, Fête de la Musique invites everyone to participate, whether by playing, performing, or hosting. In French, the name means both "festival of music" and "make music!" Fête de la Musique – World Music Day marks the start of summer with performances spanning all genres and backgrounds. Join us for this year's second edition in the heart of Georgetown, Washington, D.C.'s most historic neighborhood!
The Call for Musicians application deadline is extended to May 16, and we will do our best to accommodate applications a few days later. Please share on social media, in newsletters and other channels to help spread the word. Here are some details:
- Interested parties can apply via this online link and will be notified by May 30 if we're able to host them. The link is also online at www.georgetowndcmusic.com.
- We will 'match' musicians with outdoor Georgetown locations in the commercial district to the extent possible but can't guarantee.
- The Embassy of France will also review these applications and 'match' musicians with their venue La Maison Française, and their musical lineup for June 21.
Please let us know if you have any questions, and we appreciate your consideration and support. We will stay in touch on promotion and communication for this event and let us know if you'd like to help in any way. Thank you so much! My best, Nancy
