Hey Galvanize Fam.

As many of you may know, one of the greatest champions of Black artists in the DMV is retiring from the University of Maryland after decades of service.

I invite you to join us in celebrating Professor Scot Reese and his 30 years of extraordinary service to the University of Maryland and the Black arts community of Washington, D.C. As a mentor, visionary, and fierce advocate for Black artists, Scot has uplifted generations through his artistry, leadership, and unwavering commitment to equity. In that time Scot has mentored generations of performers, selflessly giving of his time and talents as a true gentleman and scholar.

All that said, Scot is just plain good people.
So let's let him know how appreciated and loved he is.

We invite Black artists from all disciplines to gather in gratitude and honor his teaching legacy. This is a moment to share stories, offer thanks, and recognize a career devoted to making space for Black excellence in the arts. Come be part of this joyful tribute to a beloved pillar of our community.

Click this link (which link KenYatta? THIS LINK YALL!) and follow the directions to record a message of love, thanks, and encouragement for Scot as he prepares for the next adventure of his life.

Let's see how many video responses in 10 days. We'll share the videos with him soon after.

Doesn't need to be long, just let it come from the heart.

And oh yeah....please don't tell Scot about this tribute. It's a secret. You may send the link to folx who may not be a member of Galvanize, but who will want to celebrate Scot's ongoing legacy. But tell them "sssshhh, it's a secret."  😏

Wishing you all wellness, beauty, love, and art.

GALVANIZE: Call for Musicians! 2nd annual Georgetown Fête de la Musique-World Music Day

Dear DC Arts Partners and Georgetown Community Friends!

Georgetown is hosting the 2nd annual Fête De La Musique – World Music Day [FDLM WMD] on Saturday, June 21, from 3 – 7 pm throughout the commercial district and 6 – 10 pm at the French Embassy's La Maison Francaise.

I am writing to pass along our Call for Musicians, attached and online at www.georgetowndcmusic.com,  in the hope you can distribute to your networks and help to spread the word. Three organizations are coming together to organize this event after a successful inaugural event on June 21, 2024: Georgetown Heritage, the Georgetown Business Improvement District [BID] and the Embassy of France-Villa Albertine. We are thrilled to host DMV area musicians of all ages, skills, and genres to celebrate the diversity of our area's Arts and Culture scene and fill the neighborhood with music for all to enjoy.

What is Fête De La Musique – World Music Day?

Every year, over 1,000 cities worldwide celebrate the summer solstice with citywide music events. It all began 43 years ago in France when the Ministry of Culture envisioned a day where free, live music would fill the streets—on corners and in parks, on rooftops and in gardens, in storefronts and even atop mountaintops. Unlike traditional music festivals, Fête de la Musique invites everyone to participate, whether by playing, performing, or hosting. In French, the name means both "festival of music" and "make music!" Fête de la Musique – World Music Day marks the start of summer with performances spanning all genres and backgrounds. Join us for this year's second edition in the heart of Georgetown, Washington, D.C.'s most historic neighborhood!

The Call for Musicians application deadline is May 9, however we will do our best to accommodate applications a few days later. Please share on social media, in newsletters and other channels to help spread the word. Here are some details:

  • Interested parties can apply via this online link by May 9 and will be notified by May 30 if we're able to host them. The link is also online at www.georgetowndcmusic.com.
  • We will 'match' musicians with outdoor Georgetown locations in the commercial district to the extent possible but can't guarantee.
  • The Embassy of France will also review these applications and 'match' musicians with their venue La Maison Française, and their musical lineup for June 21.

Please let us know if you have any questions, and we appreciate your consideration and support. We will stay in touch on promotion and communication for this event and let us know if you'd like to help in any way. Thank you so much! My best, Nancy
