(Career Progress) Field Director - 270 Strategies/ACLU

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is conducting a targeted campaign to elevate the civil liberties issues at stake during the 2018 electoral cycle . This program will hire experienced field directors in states across the country to oversee the on-the-ground organizing effort. The primary responsibility of the field director is to train and manage a team of organizers, coordinate with a paid canvass campaign, and raise awareness of the most pressing civil liberties issues of the day.

Field directors will report directly to a campaign manager, and will be based in one of the following states: Arizona, Florida, Kansas, Michigan, Oregon, and West Virginia. The field director role in Arizona is needed to execute a near term engagement plan, and this role is available to begin immediately. This role will require evening and weekend hours.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Refine and implement a targeted outreach program, helping to develop targeting universes, cut turf, and build canvass packets
    • Work with senior team to create a cohesive strategy for public engagement
    • Create and adapt outreach materials, trainings, and tools
    • Manage and empower an effective and motivated team of field organizers and volunteers
    • Coordinate with the paid canvassing program
    • Provide strategic direction and oversight of all field operations and set priorities
    • Build and maintain relationships with the in-state ACLU staff and partner organizations
    • Ensure strong communications and coordination with the campaign manager

REQUIREMENTS:

    • 5+ years experience in community organizing and stakeholder engagement
    • Passion for civil liberties
    • Strong understanding of how to target a diverse range of constituents
    • Demonstrated skills in coalition building, political strategy, campaign management, and measurable goal tracking and reporting
    • Experience implementing a multi-layer engagement plan and messaging strategy
    • Experience with electoral work
    • Ability to work well with senior staff across departments
    • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
    • Excellent management, strategic thinking, and planning
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
    • Bilingual preferred, but not required (Spanish)
    • Must have valid driver's license and access to personal vehicle
    • Need to have personal laptop and cell phone


The salary range for this position is $65-75K based on experience.
