Szervusztok, Lista Tagok. Ezt csak angolul irom, de ha ismertek olyan valakit aki csak magyarul tudd, kerem tudasatok vele az e-mailom tartalmat.I'm undergoing surgery at Walter Reed (WALTER REED NATIONAL MILITARY MEDICAL CENTER a.k.a. WRNMMC) on Wednesday April 11th with mandatory 6 weeks in-patient rehab until May 23rd. The address is 8901 Rockville Pike in Bethesda, Maryland, across the street from N.I.H. and between the cross streets of Cedar Lane and Jones Bridge Road. It's of urgency because of extensive injuries I sustained in a car crash when a driver speeding at 50 m.p.h. in a 25 m.p.h. zone ignored a red light and smashed into me while my car was stopped at a red light.
I'll be at Fisher House (one of 5 or 6 luxury hotels on base for certain patients and their friends and families) and going to rehab on base from there via the WRNMMC shuttles. Their strict requirements are that I have a NON-medical attendant stay with me.
The accommodations for the companion are free as is the parking and use of the recreational facilities! There's a bowling alley, gym with a pool and basketball court and yoga classes, etc. So it can be a vacation for my companion.
The requirements specifically FORBID medical attendants of any kind be they C.N.A.s, L.P.N.s, R.N.s or any other--and understandably so as they don't want outsiders dealing with their patients; just imagine the liability. However, I have no family--my hubby and parents have passed away and I'm an only child--and all my friends have demanding, full-time jobs or live out of the country.
The companion could be one person for 6 weeks or 6 people for 1 week each or some other combination. One would be preferable, of course. I'm being plunked into Fisher House on April 14th until May 23rd.
There are no responsiblities for the companion whatsoever--no lifting, no giving meds, absolutely nothing. They just require a responsible adult to physically be with me overnight and during the day because they don't allow patients to be alone. If they could be alone they wouldn't need to be in Fisher House while they undergo post-surgical physical therapy and treatments.
There are a lot of super-inexpensive places to eat on base: the main dining room, the NEX which has food courts, groceries, and is a department store; the med school (U.S.U.H.S.); snacks can be purchased at the gas station on base, etc. There's a shuttle which takes you to the commissary on the Forest Glen campus of Walter Reed if you want a full-inventory grocery store.
In addition WRNMMC (Walter Reed National Military Medical Center) is smack in the middle of Bethesda (right across the street from N.I.H.) with its numerous restaurants, even 5-star, fast food places, diners and sandwich shops plus movie theatres and other entertainment.
The person/people (1 person for 6 weeks; 6 people for 1 week each; whatever) wouldn't be a slave and have to be chained to my bed 24 hours, LOL. There's Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club a block away which features world-class acts including rock-'n'-roll greats. There are movie theatres close by, too. Walter Reed is about 5 minutes away from both the Chevy Chase Club and the Columbia Country Club.
Without a companion Fisher House would reject me. I cannot cancel or delay my surgery but there's no way I can go home alone after it. I'm not allowed to drive for several weeks post-op and not allowed to use a bathtub for minimum 3 months post-op or the metal rod could pop out. I could not get to physical therapy several times a week which means I could never recover.
I need to know as soon as possible because Fisher House cannot hold a reservation for me without the companion's name, address and telephone number as well as automobile license tag number.
Can you help me?
