About UltraViolet

UltraViolet is an online community of women and men fighting to expand women's rights and combat sexism everywhere—from politics and government to media and pop culture. We're looking for a Development Manager to manage our donor and foundation outreach, and help UltraViolet grow by raising ambitious amounts of money from an ever-growing number of sources.

With 550,000 members across every state and congressional district, we make our voices heard to further the cause of full equality, empower women, and fight attacks on women's rights. Since our launch in early 2012, millions have spoken out in favor of fair pay, equal representation, and health care, and protested against far-right attempts to control women's health and lives. We've successfully campaigned to have Facebook add the first woman to its corporate board, got over a hundred advertisers to drop the Rush Limbaugh show, pushed Reebok to withdraw its sponsorship of rapper Rick Ross due to his sexually violent lyrics, and successfully pressured authorities in Steubenville, Ohio to indict four school administrators for covering up the now-infamous rape of a teenage girl.

The Development Manager will report to Shaunna Thomas, UltraViolet Co-Executive Director and President of Fundraising and External Communications.

About the Development Manager Position

The UltraViolet Development Manager will play an important role in our fight for equality and against sexism. As Development Manager, your job will include researching potential donors, managing relationships with existing donors, writing donor materials, including grant proposals and grant reports, and keeping UltraViolet's calendar of funder-related deadlines. You will be the primary support staff for our Executive Directors in their work to meet our ambitious annual fundraising goals. Alongside our small staff, you have the chance to help build our organization. Just over two years old, UltraViolet members have already had a serious impact — but there is so much more to do. This position is a real chance to help us build for the future.

For this position, we're looking for someone who has a proven ability to manage fundraising operations for nonprofits. The ideal candidate will be an excellent writer and a detail-oriented project manager who will thrive in a fast-paced environment and be comfortable juggling multiple tasks. Flexibility, a sense of humor, and the ability to work with our small (and mighty) team are a must. UltraViolet operates a virtual office and has staff throughout the country. The location for this position is flexible.

Primary Responsibilities:

Ensuring that UltraViolet's fundraising materials, grant proposals, and grant reports are excellently prepared and delivered to funders in timely manner.
Managing UltraViolet's development calendar, including proposal and report deadlines.
Facilitating UltraViolet's ongoing communications with current and potential funders.
Writing UltraViolet grant proposals and reports and/or managing consultants or other UltraViolet staff to do the same.
Assisting UltraViolet's executive directors in creating an annual development strategy, and prepping the executive directors for fundraising meetings.
Creating and maintaining fundraising materials--both online and printed.
Conducting prospect research and maintaining an active prospect list.
Managing our donor database.
Processing donations, including entering contributions into the donor database and generating thank you letters.

Primary Qualifications:

2+ years of professional fundraising experience.
Proven project management skills.
Previous grant writing and donor management experience.
Attention to detail and deadlines, and the ability to manage up around hard deadlines.
Excellent written communication skills.
Familiarity with budgets.
Knowledge of the grant-seeking and grant-management world, and familiarity with donor management software.
Ability to oversee the development of fundraising materials and assets, including printed brochures, large format posters, web-based presentations, and flyers.
Professional and personable demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with Power Point and other presentation platforms.
Familiarity with webinar platforms and comfort with planning and managing webinar presentations.
Ability to support co-Executive Directors to develop new fundraising pitches and donor presentations.
Proven personal track record of raising money from charitable foundations and/or individual major donors.
