Executive Assistant – Democracy Partners

McPherson Square, Washington, D.C.

 

Democracy Partners, a progressive political consulting firm based in downtown Washington, DC, is seeking an Executive Assistant. Our current and past clients include leading progressive organizations such as Daily Kos, Democracy Alliance, League of Conservation Voters, Planned Parenthood, and MoveOn.org.

 

The Executive Assistant will need to have a working knowledge of the progressive movement, and a strong commitment to progressive politics, issue campaigns, and democratic candidates. He or she will also need to have a basic understanding of online political organizing, an interest in learning new skills, excellent communication skills, political smarts, a "jack of all trades" ability to take on new roles, strong attention to detail, and a keen sense of discretion.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Manage the CEO's travel and daily schedule;
  • Perform political research;
  • Act as the initial point of contact for press and external organizations wishing to do business with the firm;
  • Serve as the office manager, responsible for supplies, office equipment, filing, answering phones, greeting guests, prep for larger meetings, and office organization;
  • Hire and manage a team of interns;
  • Manage administrative and IT matters, and be able to analyze and present solutions to administrative problems with minimal supervision;
  • Track company receipts and expenses, and file bills and financial documents for the office;
  • Understanding of the hottest and most effective use of social media sites and best practices;
  • Ability to generate email campaigns and use Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube and other social media sites to promote campaigns for clients;
  • Maintain the online presence of the firm and CEO;
  • Track trending topics in the blogosphere and online communities;
  • Identify potential press opportunities;
  • And other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in progressive and/or Democratic politics, whether as an online or offline political organizer, or in a similar administrative executive assistant role.
  • "Get it done" attitude, along with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines without losing track of details.
  • Flexibility and team-oriented attitude that is needed in a small firm.
  • As the point of contact for multiple relationships outside the firm, the Executive Assistant will need to have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to represent the firm in a professional manner.
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency with PCs, Microsoft Office products, and presentation software.  Experience with Final Cut Pro or other video editing software is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications abilities.
  • Ability and interest in continually improving self and the firm's performance, whether it's a better website, better way of organizing a client project, finding the lowest possible airfare, better organizational techniques for the CEO or office, etc.
  • Basic understanding of, and willingness to learn about, the follow online and offline political organizing techniques, campaigns and elections, progressive netroots, the landscape of the progressive movement, building political campaigns, and community organizing.
  • Experience with online political organizing. This can include one or more of the following: netroots outreach, blogs, HTML, social networking, website design, CMS and e-mail delivery.
