GALVANIZE: Audition Notice for The Welders production of Girls' Night (with Spirits) by Teshonne Nicole Powell

The Welders is hosting virtual auditions for my audioplay, GIRLS' NIGHT (WITH SPIRITS) premiering October 15 online. This opportunity is non-equity, paid. Virtual auditions will take place July 22 - 24. See below to learn more about the production, roles, and how to sign up. Thank you. :)

AUDITIONS Virtual, By Appointment on Google Meet
Thursday, July 22 – Friday, July 23, 2021, 6:30pm – 10pm ET (10-minute slots)
Saturday, July 24, 2021, from 12pm – 5pm ET (10-minute slots)

*Actors will perform a contemporary monologue of their choice (no longer than 2 minutes), along with a prepared side monologue that will be sent upon confirmation of audition slot

ABOUT THE PLAY
Rey, a Black millennial woman has a problem: her house has been taken over by a ghost with a strange obsession with her bathroom. Enter paranormal expert, the eccentric Estelle, who comes promising that a little wine, chocolate, and girl talk will help relieve the tension. But Estelle has secrets, the spirit is a mystery, and Rey struggles with a shameful secret as her house and herself begin to fall apart.

This production is an audioplay of which audiences can stream and listen to on-demand. 

Content warning: This story mentions drug use and suicide, contains mild violence, blood, and some explicit language.

This production is based in the Washington DC metro area. Actors must be able to commute to in-person meetings, rehearsals, and audio recording sessions located in the Washington, DC metro area.

CHARACTERS
REY 
Black Woman, early 30's. Anxious, stressed, a bit neurotic. Can sing exceptionally well, but she doesn't know it.

ESTELLE 
Black Woman, looks like she is in her 30's/40's. She has lived for about 200 years, but you wouldn't know it. Reckless, yet intentional. Has a fading New Orleans accent, barely noticeable.

SAD SPIRIT / VOICE OF CHARLOTTE 
Sad Spirit takes after Rey, oozes guilt and shame. 
The voice of Charlotte, Rey's co-worker, is anxious and squealy.

GRANDMAMA / VOICE OF MOM
Black woman, mid-50's. Rey's grandmother. Can sang. 
Mom is Rey's mother. She is bubbly and unaware.

COMPENSATION
$750 per role

If you are not available for live virtual auditions, please email connect@thewelders.org with your resume, headshot, and the role you would like to audition for and we will send you the necessary script material to submit along with your own monologue in a pre-recorded video.
