(Career Progress) NGP VAN seeks Web and Visual Designer

NGP VAN seeks a talented, full-time web and visual designer to join our Digital Services team, which provides award-winning custom designed websites for Democratic political campaigns, parties, and progressive nonprofits. You care about every pixel, get a little geeky about typography, understand seamless user experiences, and create outstanding, professional web and logo designs. You'll be working with our team of front-end developers in a fast-paced environment not unlike a start-up or political campaign.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in a visual design role with an emphasis on web design
  • Exceptional visual design craft: concept development, composition, color theory, and typography
  • Highly skilled in using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Excellent spoken, written, and visual communication skills
  • Comfortable researching and developing creative direction for clients
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about website usability, web standards and responsive design.
  • Experience creating wireframes, comps, and logos
  • A self-starter, organized, detail oriented, and able to prioritize
  • Positive attitude, sense of humor and eagerness to learn

Responsibilities

  • Create visual design solutions for political campaigns and nonprofits including websites and the occasional logo
  • Collaborate with clients and developers to create great user experiences
  • Ability to take creative direction and work efficiently and independently
  • Collect, manage, and edit digital assets, including photographs, vector images, patterns, and icons
  • Juggle multiple projects and meet time-sensitive and aggressive deadlines
  • Evaluate design problems and present designs to clients on the phone, in person, and via email

Candidates that Stand Out

  • Experience in designing for political campaigns, nonprofits or associations
  • UI/UX experience
  • A master of mobile and responsive design
  • This position does not require coding but a basic understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and JQuery is a plus.
  • Drupal or other CMS experience
  • Degree in graphic, visual, or web design or formal design training
  • Outstanding, professional design portfolio

To Apply

Please submit your resume and a link to your portfolio here or visit www.ngpvan.com/careers. In your portfolio, we would like to see past web design, logo/branding work, and graphic design. Applications cannot be accepted without a link to a portfolio.
