Mon, Nov 6 INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS FUNDRAISER LUNCHEON: Auditorium, 12noon. Guest speaker Marianne Szegedy- Maszak is award winning journalist, editor and professor. This memoir of her parents’ lives before during and after WWII was informed by a cache of letters written between 1940 - 47. Before the war her father, Aladar, was a rising anti-fascist diplomat, while her mother, Hanna was granddaughter to Manfred Weiss, patriarch of a wealthy, aristocratic Jewish family which had long since converted to Catholicism. Ironically, Aladar came to be interred in Dachau, while Hanna’s family was forced into hiding when the Germans invaded Hungary in 1944. Later, the family was able to broker a deal with Heinrich Himmler and escaped to Portugal. When the couple was later reunited, they were changed people.

RESERVATIONS REQUIRED – RSVP DEADLINE: Wed, Nov 1. RSVP to Andrea Sherman @ alprms@gmail.com . Reservations are considered firm when made; if you make a reservation and did not cancel by the RSVP date, you are still expected to pay. Cost $25.00. Checks payable to ‘WCCC’ may be left in the box in the office (please write “Int’l Affairs” on the memo line), or you may pay at the door.  We will vaive the deadline, register at the door.
