Director of Policy & Advocacy

Location: Remote organization, but a hybrid role with strong preference for someone in the Washington, DC metro area. We work on an Eastern time zone schedule.

Reports to: Chief Program Officer

About Majority Action:

Majority Action is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering shareholders of all sizes to hold corporations and their leaders accountable to high standards of long-term value creation, corporate governance, and social responsibility.

Our campaigns expose harmful corporate governance and behavior, catalyze investor and public action, and confront the minority who make corporate abuses possible to defend the long-term financial, environmental, and social interests of the majority. Learn more at www.majorityaction.us.

Majority Action staff collectively believe that transformational change is possible and that achieving such change requires tenacity, creativity, rigor, and collaboration. We strive to balance strategic pragmatism to advance campaigns with the courage to challenge ideas and systems that undermine sustainability, equity, and inclusion.

Our team values:

  • Integrity in our relationships
  • Asking hard questions and adapting based on what we learn
  • Excellence in our work
  • Nimbleness and strategic flexibility in the face of challenge
  • Deep, equitable, and mutually beneficial partnerships

While Majority Action is not a traditional membership-based organization, the team works in close partnership with grassroots organizations. We work together to develop strategies and execute tactics that support activists to make their power felt in corporate boardrooms.

  • Coordinate emerging narrative strategy with A-B, AFR, SEIU, and other potential partners to ensure that narrative products and tactics align with strategic objectives and the needs of advocacy and coalition activities
  • Cultivate new partnerships with policymakers, progressive think tanks, and national organizations to help us execute our narrative and advocacy strategy
  • Together with our partners, design an initial coalition-building strategy and launch
  • Identify and design tactical opportunities for coalition and partner activities to advance our narrative and advocacy strategies
  • Leverage and drive synergies with Majority Action's existing intellectual leadership, investor engagement strategies, and accountability campaigns to advance shared objectives
  • Identify staffing and/or other resource needs, and design roles to staff up the project as needed
Requirements
  • Extensive advocacy work and coalition building experience as a campaigner with lobbying and advocacy expertise
  • Experience reading and navigating the current political landscape

  • Demonstrated track record of success cultivating and operationalizing relationships with potential partners and stakeholders, organizational leaders
  • Commitment to the belief that democracy, racial justice, and climate equity are inextricable
  • Excellent writing and communication skills

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience with corporate accountability and/or narrative strategy campaign design and execution
