(Career Progress) Job Opening: Trainer for Leadership Development & Capacity Building

Position Description: 

The Trainer for Leadership Development and Capacity Building will be a dynamic and experienced trainer, team player and movement builder in the Field Support Team. The Trainer will draw on their experience in the areas of transformative leadership development, political/popular education, community organizing, curriculum design, and workshop facilitation to create and facilitate leadership cultivation opportunities (ie. cohort-based programs, communities of practices, retreats, and workshops) for Community Change partners and staff (upon request.) 

A portion of time may be spent working with Community Change's sister organization, Community Change Action.

Principal Responsibilities:  

  • Conduct leadership development and capacity building trainings as requested for Community Change partners and staff, including cohort-based programs such as the women's fellowship and Power 50, the Power in Places Organizer Lab, and other partner trainings related to leadership development and organizing. 

  • Assist with curriculum development as needed in coordination with the Program Manager for Leadership Development.

  • Provide support to other capacity building projects led by the Field Support Team.

  • Complete necessary administrative responsibilities associated with position (ie. grant reporting, budget and finance, all staff meetings, timesheets, etc).

  • Work closely with the Program Manager for Leadership Development to help develop the vision and scope for Community Change's leadership cultivation offerings for the field, and help facilitate the ongoing refinement of this vision and scope to meet the evolving needs of the field. 

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of three to five years of experience in leadership development and training, electoral, community organizing, state or national policy initiatives.  A mix of experiences in these arenas is ideal.  

  • Familiarity with and openness to different approaches to grassroots training and organizing work.

  • Proven experience training community and movement leaders.

  • Strong grounding and familiarity of working with a racial and gender justice lens.

  • Strong facilitation skills.

  • Ability to work democratically and effectively with diverse groups and people.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours and to travel extensively.

  • Experience and comfort working as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team.

  • Knowledge of how to combine assets available to the team in a way that maximizes the ability of the team to function at a high level.

  • Strong team player, familiar with team dynamics and willing to work in a team environment.

  • Knowledge of key issues that Community Change currently works on, such as poverty, criminal justice reform, jobs, economic justice, immigration and/or other issues.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • The ability to produce consistent, quality work in a fast-paced environment is essential.

  • Ability to speak a second language a plus.

This position report to: Director of Field Support 

Classification: Community Change recognizes a staff bargaining unit affiliated with IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is included in Community Change's bargaining unit and covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

COVID-19 Requirements: Community Change requires all new employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (within six weeks after the start of employment) unless a medical or religious exemption or other exemption allowed under applicable law is requested and approved. All offers of employment are contingent on compliance with this requirement. An employee will be considered fully vaccinated once (i) two weeks have elapsed since after the employee has received the final dose of a primary COVID vaccine series (e.g., two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, two doses of the Moderna vaccine, or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine) and (ii) the employee has received any booster vaccine dose currently recommended by the CDC for those in the employee's age group. Should the CDC subsequently recommend additional boosters or should an employee otherwise become newly subject to a CDC booster recommendation, an employee shall continue to be considered fully vaccinated if the employee gets the additional booster within one month of the change.

Travel Requirements: Ability and willingness to travel approximately 30% of the time.

Salary & benefits: $70,000 - $80,000 annual salary range. Community Change also offers an excellent benefits package, which includes 4 weeks of annual paid vacation; additional paid holiday leave between December 24 and January 1; 8% employer contribution to retirement account after six months of employment (and 3% employer contribution for the first 6 months); and a choice of generous health insurance plans.
