[SCOW] Re: Lewis solo rowing from Florida to NY for Alzheimer’s research

Hi friends,
Thanks to all the folks who reached out to help Lewis! He's had an outpouring of support and offers. He's got a spot to stay and a place to keep his boat. He's going to be up in DC this evening so will have to miss Social Sail. Hope to see everybody out tonight for some good food and sailing in glorious weather! Forecast is for 5 knots of wind, clear skies, and 71 degrees.

See you then!

Chris

Hi friends,
Maybe you can help.

A fun British guy, Lewis Colam, is rowing a small boat from Florida to New York and he's made it up the Potomac just a little south of Mt Vernon so far. (Go figure. Brits and their navigation-- completely going up the wrong river!! I kid, I kid.) In any case, he's doing it all to help raise some funds for Alzheimer's research (hoping to raise 50K), but he needs a spot to put his 15 foot row boat for a couple days starting this Thursday and a nice couch or bed for two days while he visits DC would be a welcome help. He seems like a really nice fellow, so let me and Lewis (lcolamyork@googlemail.com) know if you might be able to put him up or put up his row boat for a couple days during his journey. If the stars align, he may be able to come out and join us for this Thursday's Social Sail at the Washington Sailing Marina at 6:00pm. This may have all been just an elaborate plan of his to make it to our social sail. In any case...

Here's an early news story about his trip:

I am writing to inform you about a young British man named Lewis Colam who is undertaking an expedition, rowing a 15 ' open dinghy from Miami FL to NYC as a fundraiser for Alzheimer's. I met Lewis when he came through St Augustine in late March. He has a website at www.iamfinechallenge.org. Lewis is currently rowing in the Chesapeake and expects to be in the Washington area on Thursday.  He is looking for a place where he can tie up for a few days. I presume "tie up"means a place where he can secure his boat and have access to a room.and a shower. Can someone in your club assist him? He is a very nice person, and a delight to talk to.
