(Career Progress) HIRING: Intern - We the Action

Civic Nation is currently seeking an intern for its We The Action ("WTA") initiative. The intern, reporting to the Associate Director of Partnerships, will provide key operational and administrative support to each of WTA's cross-cutting functions. This is an exciting position for someone who is detail-oriented and driven and wants to have an impactful role in furthering the mission of WTA.

OVERVIEW OF WE THE ACTION

WTA is a digital platform that makes it easy for lawyers to volunteer for critical, impactful—and often urgent—legal needs posted by WTA's nonprofit partners. Launched after the 2016 election, WTA engages and mobilizes the legal community toward the most pressing issues of the day. Lawyers sign up for free at WTA's website, browse projects posted by nonprofit partners, and volunteer for projects that interest them.

Our community of more than 40,000 lawyers has donated in excess of $100 million in free legal services since our inception.  Our lawyers impact the most pressing issues of the day: fair elections, civil rights, immigration, racial justice, gender equity, and many more. We support more than 400 nonprofit partners nationwide, including the ACLU, American Constitution Society, Fair Fight Action, the Immigration Justice Campaign, and the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights.

ABOUT CIVIC NATION

Civic Nation serves as a mobilization hub at the intersection of creative communications, community organizing, narrative and culture change strategies, and high-level stakeholder engagement. At Civic Nation we house some of the most innovative campaigns organizing for progress across the country including It's On Us, Made to Save, ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, End Rape on Campus, The United State of Women, and When We All Vote, Co-chaired by Michelle Obama.

Civic Nation also partners with some of the country's most influential voices, brands, organizations, and institutions, and brings together a collection of leading talent with deep expertise in their individual issue area and a collective passion for civic engagement.

YOUR IMPACT

WTA has a small team, so our interns play a vital role in helping to further the success of the organization. The intern will be responsible for a variety of short-term and long-term tasks that include:

  • assisting with administrative office needs such as data management, scheduling, preparing staff or meetings and events, and research to help with internal and external reporting;
  • supporting the recruitment, vetting, and onboarding of new nonprofit partners;
  • supporting the recruitment and onboarding of new lawyers and law firms;
  • assisting with social media posts and outreach strategies (crafting and tracking reach of posts);
  • finding and curating news stories that are relevant to the missions of WTA and our nonprofit partners;
  • attending webinars hosted by nonprofit partners and other organizations;
  • researching and implementing volunteer and nonprofit engagement strategies;
  • assisting with providing technical support to help volunteers create accounts, reset passwords, and have a positive experience using the website; and
  • other projects tailored to the intern's interests and skills.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

  • Be a recent high school graduate or currently enrolled in college or university and passionate about our mission.

YOUR COMPETENCIES

The ideal candidate will be:

  • a team player who is flexible and willing to tackle a variety of projects;
  • detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • proficient in Microsoft Suite;
  • comfortable using and learning new technology – we can teach you how to use the programs we work with on a daily basis, including Airtable, Intercom, Mixpanel, and Mode;
  • committed to equity and inclusion, someone who works well with diverse groups of people and recognizes the ways that race, gender, and other identities intersect with the legal system;
  • a strong researcher, writer, and communicator;
  • familiar with social media (especially Twitter);
  • keenly aware of current events and news, especially related to issues important to WTA; and
  • comfortable handling multiple projects at once.

PROGRAM DETAILS

The Summer internship program will commence on June 1, 2022 and end on August 26, 2022. Positions are paid at the rate of $15.20 per hour and are remote. Interns are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week. Dates and hours are flexible.

MANDATORY COVID-19 VACCINATION POLICY

Civic Nation is committed to protecting our employees and our communities from COVID-19. Toward that goal, and in consideration of guidance released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and a variety of public health authorities and professional organizations, Civic Nation has implemented a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for its employees.

All employees are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 as a term and condition of employment at Civic Nation unless an exemption or deferral has been approved. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after they get their second dose of a messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine, such as Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna, or two weeks after a single dose of the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

New employees must be fully vaccinated before their start date unless an exemption due to a medical condition or a sincerely held religious belief or practice is granted.

TO APPLY

To apply, submit a cover letter and resume at this link. Applications will be accepted until April 1, 2022. The cover letter should be concise, compelling, and include why you would like to be an intern for Civic Nation.
