(Career Progress) HIRING: NDTC (REMOTE) - Director of Training Curriculum

https://traindemocrats.org/jobs/director-of-training-curriculum/

We are hiring a Director of Training Curriculum to leverage a collaborative team of political, education, and technology experts to set the vision and strategy needed to effectively train candidates, staff, and local leaders.

NDTC has trained over 100,000 Democrats to run for office, work on campaigns, and build long term local party infrastructure. In the 2020 cycle, we have trained over 1,400 candidates running for office. We need you to help take this program to the next level in 2021 and beyond.

To succeed in this role, you will need political/campaign, training, and people management experience. You will manage existing curriculum as well as prioritize and lead the development of new training materials and content for the organization. In 2021, we will continue to expand our curriculum for campaign staff and local leaders while giving specific attention to the needs of new candidates planning to run in the 2022 cycle.

Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development:

  • Direct the vision and strategy for updating, maintaining, and adding to NDTC's training curriculum while keeping current with the latest research and innovations for effective campaign strategies and tactics.
  • Ensure NDTC's training curriculum is inclusive of and reflective of the diversity of the Democratic party and develop content to support the needs of learners from various accessibility needs and identity groups including women, people of color, and LGBTQIA+ individuals.
  • Drive training curriculum goals and priorities, including planning and project management from inception to launch.
  • Utilize research, data and analytics, and user feedback to ensure that curriculum is effective and useful for learners and to guide future training additions and updates.

Internal and External Leadership:

  • Engage as a member of NDTC's senior leadership team supporting organizational wide priorities including strategic planning, diversity and inclusion efforts, and budgeting.
  • Partner with marketing to create various recruitment and retention campaigns to engage new learners and re-engage current online learners at various points throughout their campaigns.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion within NDTC using a personal approach that values all individuals and respects differences in regards to race, ethnicity, age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstance.
  • Represent NDTC as a convening leader of the Progressive Training Collaborative, a coalition of training organizations across the country, to identify best practices, opportunities for partnership and collaboration, and solutions to common challenges.

Staff Management:

  • Manage and coach 5 instructional designers (IDs) promoting NDTC's culture of excellence and commitment to learning including the establishment of professional development pathways.
  • Develop and manage team-wide processes and workflow prioritization for the whole curriculum team (In total, the team includes 7 full time staff serving in the roles of IDs and associate IDs in addition to rotating paid interns/fellows).
Position Requirements:
  • Political campaign experience in at least two election cycles at the state or federal level including experience in a leadership position is required. (We define leadership positions as ones that are directing campaign strategy either as the candidate, campaign manager, or leader of a team.) Experience as a campaign manager or training director on a campaign is a plus.
  • Experience designing and delivering training content across various audiences, modalities, and learning styles. While previous experience with online training is a plus, it is not required.
  • Willingness to take creative approaches to developing engaging, scalable curriculum for the organization's programming while maintaining a commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.
  • Demonstrable track record as a people manager. We are looking for people who have managed a team of 3+ full time staff members. Ideally, candidates for this role would have experience managing mid-level staff members (not just interns or entry level staff) and/or managed staff who are people managers.
  • Strong communication skills that facilitate deep collaboration and the ability to prioritize work across teams in the organization.

About NDTC as an Employer

The National Democratic Training Committee (NDTC) is a hybrid PAC that offers free, interactive online and in-person training (when public health allows) for Democratic candidates, staff, and leaders. We aim to empower any Democrat who wants to be involved in politics with the tools needed to be successful.

This position reports to the Chief of Staff and Operations. Due to COVID-19, this position is remote through at least early 2021. NDTC will reopen an office in Chicago, IL when it is safe for us to resume working in an office, traveling, and holding in-person meetings. At that time, our preference is that this role will be based in Chicago, but location is negotiable for the right candidate.

NDTC believes that our differences enhance our strength as a political party—and as a nation—and we as an organization benefit from staff of diverse races, ethnic origins, religions, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, economic backgrounds, abilities, and other facets of our identities.

Application Process:

Salary is commensurate with experience, with a starting range of $110,000 – $130,000 per year. NDTC offers a strong benefits package including health insurance with the employee premium paid-in-full by NDTC, a 10% employer match on contributions to 401(k), short and long-term disability and life insurance, as well as a flexible paid time off policy. Additionally, NDTC's offices close for a full week each year during Thanksgiving, final week of December, and first week in January as well as all Federal holidays.

To apply, email resume and cover letter to Akiya Brown at abrown@traindemocrats.org – subject line "Director of Training Curriculum." No calls, please. In your cover letter, please include the date on which you would be available to start.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
