Position Description

America Votes is seeking a talented leader with a record of success executing issue and electoral campaign programs as well as building strong partnerships and coalitions.

 

The national political director is primarily responsible for leading the high-level program coordination and ongoing engagement of 60+ national partner organizations. Additionally, the national political director will co-develop strategy to seamlessly coordinate national and state-based partners' programs and priorities to develop products that track programs and identify coalition-wide priorities and opportunities, building a seamless and unique connection between state and national efforts.

 

The national political director will ensure programs and elections advance the shared long-term vision for progressive change, including growing the coalition as needed to achieve those goals. This is an exciting opportunity for a proven, visionary leader to build the national partner engagement program at a high-impact organization and serve as a critical member of the organization's senior leadership team.

 

Location

This position is based in Washington, D.C.

 

Responsibilities

·         Develop America Votes' strategy for the ongoing engagement and program coordination of national partner organizations.

·         Manage Political Department team in establishing and sustaining relationships with new and longstanding national partner groups.

·         Design and direct the execution of a set of strategic engagements with national partners so they are informed, connected and collaborating toward shared goals.

·         Maintain and expand systems to track and report partner programs and priorities, including key states and elections.

·         Onboard and engage groups on the suites of tools and services provided to partner organizations.

·         Connect national partners to America Votes planning processes nationally and in-state.

·         Provide direct assistance to partners for program and plan development.

·         Identify new and needed coalition partners to help build the most reflective coalition.

·         Represent America Votes in external convenings.

·         Additional duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

·         Work well with people from diverse backgrounds, with experience working in communities of color preferred.

·         Minimum of 10-15 years of campaign management experience and deep understanding of modern campaign tactics, data and targeting and ability to evaluate and execute winning campaign plans with a strong field component required.

·         Applicants ideally have a mix of both electoral and issue advocacy campaign experience at the director level.

·         Experience with independent activity program preferred.

·         Demonstrated expert level ability to exercise excellent political judgement and discretion.

·         Applicants must have demonstrated ability to negotiate, build consensus and strategically disagree. Must be respected by progressive stakeholders and trusted to lead.

·         Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts while maintaining important and effective relationships.

·         Demonstrated ability in managing and leading coalitions with multi-issue agendas.

·         Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment as well as independently. Excellent listening, interpersonal, communication, time management and problem-solving skills.

·         Ability to prioritize and handle variety of projects simultaneously. 

·         Applicants must be a self-starter and be willing to work campaign style hours and to travel, as needed.

·         Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint). Excellent writing and presentation skills with excellent attention to detail.

·         Ideal candidates will have a spirit of service and a sense of humor.

 

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with experience, $125,000 - $145,000. Benefits include health, dental, vision and 401(K).
